Two Sisters Killed in Crash Near Lander

By Kari Eakins – 19 Mar ’14

A two-car crash on WYO 789 east of Lander Tuesday morning has killed two young sisters. The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 6-year-old Olivia Lewis and 3-year-old Emma Lewis died Tuesday afternoon after being flown to a Salt Lake City Hospital.

Authorities say the crash occurred just around 7:45 a.m. when the road was snow and ice covered. The girls mother, Rebecca Lewis, was driving their SUV and lost control, sliding broadside into an oncoming pickup and then into a ditch. Troopers investigating the crash attribute speed too fast for the conditions as a contributing factor.

The girls father, Dr. Sean Lewis, is a professor at Wyoming Catholic College, which released a statement saying they are deeply saddened by the tragedy and asking for prayer for the family.

Two online fundraising campaigns have been established for the Lewis family. They can be found at giveforward.com and indiegogo.com.
