GILLETTE, Wyo. — A jury has convicted a man of second-degree murder for a shooting in Gillette on Thanksgiving Day.

The Gillette News Record reports jurors deliberated for nearly six hours before finding 23-year-old Todd Michael Sindelar guilty Monday in the death of 25-year-old Matthew Boyer.

Prosecutors say Sindelar shot Boyer once in the abdomen and once in the chest at Boyer’s home Nov. 28, 2013. Boyer’s girlfriend told investigators the men had been in a dispute about rent.

Sindelar fled Gillette after the shooting, leading police on a 200-mile chase. He was arrested in South Dakota.

His attorneys say he did not intend to kill Boyer and was acting in self-defense.

Sindelar was acquitted of first-degree murder.
